Student Media Advertising
I made the decision to apply for an advertising design job with Northwest Student Media upon arriving moving to college and I am certainly thankful I did. Throughout the past four years, I have created print and digital ads for the Missourian's weekly newspaper, email newsletter and website. I ultimately earned the Advertising Design Manager title and held the responsibility for my last year and a half of college.
Through working with account executives, we created ads to communicate each client's ideal message. As manager, I supervised a team of designers and collaborated with co-workers to create our most popular publication, the annual Cat's Guide for incoming students. I was also responsible for the weekly pagination and placement of ads in the newspaper. I learned to the importance of open communication among the entire student media organization, including the editorial board and director. I constantly sought out additional responsibilities, such as selling ads where I made over $100 in ad revenue!
the
Cat's Guide
2023-2024
While leading the design of our annual student, I worked with my design team to establish a
theme, elements, colors, fonts and more. I delegated designs to each team member and checked on in on the status of their designs to ensure all pages were ready. Below are the pages I created, click on each one to view them as a PDF in a new tab.
paginating the
newspaper
I had many deadlines in this position to ensure the weekly newspaper was complete. On Thursdays, I paginated the next week's paper by checking the ad sizes and color, as shown below. I then mapped out the lines on InDesign and printed them for the editorial staff to budget their stories accordingly.
On Tuesdays, I would embed the final ads for that publication and print out all pages for confirmation from respective account executives. Click an image for the link to its respective published newspaper.
media
kit
redesign
One of my favorite projects has been this media kit rebrand for Northwest Student Media. The very outdated 2015 media kit needed extensive reorganizing and more information for potential clients to find the right advertising route for them. I added descriptions of each platform, updated contact information, added title pages and much more. Click a preview image below to open the entire PDF document in a new tab.
staff incentive program
For my position, I worked with the account executive manager to create an incentive for our staff and encourage them to reach sales goals. Below is the door poster that I designed using Adobe Illustrator for the sales team to easily visualize their goals through coloring each ice cream scoop as they reach milestones.
special edition newspaper
Instead of The Missourian's normal Homecoming Guide, we decided to split our regular weekly paper into two sections. The first A section of the paper was dedicated to homecoming information and graphics designed by the advertising design staff. Below are some of my designs, including the front page, candidates header and game stats. Click on any preview to view the entire online paper.
